A 37 years old man Abdull Kare of Banglades residing at Ha-Makhakhe Mafeteng, and a 38 years old woman Nteboheleng Mahamo of Ha-Makhakhe Mafeteng, appeared before the Maseru Magistrate Court on the 9th August 2018 for corruption.
Reports indicate that the man and the woman allegedly forged a marriage certificate, illegally using the signature of one of the pastors, and the man further applied for the citizenship of Lesotho which he managed to get.
On the other side the Ministry of Home Affairs became concerned, of the alarming number of applications of Bangladesh citizens who seemed to be married to Basotho women, requesting to be citizens in Lesotho, and the ministry reported this to the police.
Reports indicate that the police followed the incident and found that the man and the woman, who were staying together had forged a marriage certificate, showing that they got married in 2006, even though they got married in the past two to three years.
The Lesotho Mounted Police Service(LMPS) Spokesperson Supretendent Mpiti Mopeli, indicated that there is a number of cases the police is following, in which the woman allegedly forged marriage certificates for foreigners in Lesotho.
The suspects will appear in court again on the 15th August 2018.
