18 July 2024 | 12:03

The district of Botha-Bothe began celebrating His Majesty's 61st birthday today with a church service held at St. Peter's Catholic Church.

Speaking at the service, Diocese of Leribe Bishop Tumelo Bane conveyed that His Majesty had directed a church service to be held in honour of his birthday.

"We are gathered here to wish him a long life full of blessings as he leads the Basotho nation. The Catholic Church takes this moment to extend our best wishes to King Letsie III for a happy birthday, peace, and protection.

"We are also aware that this year, His Majesty's birthday coincides with the Basotho nation's 200th anniversary. We ask God to guide him, as Apostle Paul indicates in the Bible that we should pray for our leaders. Let us share the peace and happiness that Moshoeshoe left for us," he said.

The bishop’s council expressed their gratitude for celebrating this year's birthday with His Majesty as he also partakes in the 200-year celebration of the Basotho nation's existence.

The council noted that this year marks a remembrance of how Moshoeshoe ruled his country and emphasized that they are part of the journey together.
