DPE yesterday invited media to an annual platform called People Summit  to be held in Namibia under the auspices of Southern Africa People’s Solidarity Network SAPSN

Thru this  NETWORK sadc is  calling  upon social movements ,communities,students and civil society groups  from all its members, to participate and keep communication channel with local media for it to update people on the deliberations of the summit which will be converged into a  communiqué, to be handed  over to the SADC Summit of heads through a huge march

When highlighting the difference and the benefits of the People’s Summit as opposed to that of the SADC Heads’, Mr Sofonea Shale the DPE coordinator pointed that SAPSN allows people’s representatives to express their deepest  needs,  challenges and  their proposed resolutions in a resounding manner while heads speak in neo- liberalism form ,being shallow about  piercing issues like unemployment ,poverty and injustice

The People’s Summit is expected to be held in Windhoek Namibia on the 16th -17th of Agust 2018,this Summit is an annual  platform provided by SAPSN , for ordinary citizens to voice out their struggles .This year ‘s theme has been derived from dilemmas of the  Southern African people such as strife  for peace , access to land ,equitable distribution of wealth derived from natural resources ,tax justice,corruption free governance,human rights,free press,workers’rights ,cross border trade and movement ,the p[light of children,women and people with disabilities ,affordability of quality education and other aspects

In its  press release SAPSN stated that  the People Summit runs along SADC Summit because ordinary citizens want to remind leaders that a shift from SADCC to SADC  with two ‘’C’’s to SADC with one “C”, from Coordinating Conference to Community was for the people of the region not only their leaders as it now appears ;through this initiative people are reclaiming SADC from a club of leaders to be a true liberation platform for the people of the region
