GOVERNMENT SEEKS HELP TO SPEED UP NATIONAL REFORMS PROCESSES

The Office of the Minister, in the Ministry of Law and Constitutional Affairs (MLCA) says it has sought an intervention in a bid to bring all the stakeholders to a common understanding to speed up national reforms processes. In a press release issued on Monday, the Ministry says the intervention is likely to help all the stakeholders which are currently not agreeing on how to approach the reforms process, to find a common ground in order to complete the reforms process.

The Ministry said it was aware that in the past, seeking an outside intervention was successful to carry out recommendations from the public.Since the reforms process belongs to the nation, the Ministry says it is crucial for all the stakeholders to be part of the process, hence the Government is unable to take unilateral decisions as it needs a consensus. It further said the Government had already invited the political leadership represented in the National Assembly together with members of the Senate to a meeting on May 19 this year at ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre in order to reach a consensus on the reforms process on the plan tabled by the Government. However, the Ministry noted that the political leadership requested for the meeting to be postponed to a later date, to rather have a meeting with the government alone before having a joint meeting with the Senate.

‘The Government has accepted the request and such a meeting is scheduled for Thursday this week or Friday at ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre’ it highlighted. The Minister reminded the nation about the history of the country, saying there has been friction and hatred for a long time, which resulted in Lesotho being a laughing stock from the international community even though its image has deteriorated. The Government therefore believes that the country will eventually join hands with all sectors to restore the dented image and to bring everlasting peace to the country. The Government is also anticipating to form a new body that will be inclusive of all sectors that will spearhead the reforms process.
