Despite 'Operation Hloekisa Lesotho' Leribe’s Hlotse is still counted among dirty areas.

Speaking in an interview with the agency on Friday, one of the community members Mr. Thabo Selai said the dumping sites and dirt are looming all over Hlotse.

Mr. Selai said lack of transport to collect the dirt causes it to litter all over leaving the town in a mess.

He indicated that some large dustbins are dilapidated due to rain as well as keeping dirt for a longer period.

In an interview, one of the street vendors Mrs. Nthabiseng Mochekoane said the dirt is collected after a very long period and between intervals it piles and spreads to other areas.

"There are people who also dig the dumping sites searching for different things and they leave dirt all over," she stated.

She mentioned that operation Hloekisa Lesotho does make visible change, which only lasts for a few days.

Mrs. Mochekoane suggested that for a busy town like Hlotse the operation should at least be held twice a month.

"Hlotse is very busy and as one of the towns near Maputsoe entry port into the country, to attract more tourists it has to be kept clean," she stated.

Another one who opted for anonymity said the leadership of the town has to deploy all the leadership into cleaning thoroughly, including associations of street vendors, taxis and buses to mention a few.

The District Administration Manager Mrs. 'Maletsika Motsokotsi highlighted this issue when the new District Administrator was introduced in office last week.

She said it is bad as such is near the offices of the District Administration.

Hlotse is one of the towns forming Leribe district, which is the biggest after Maseru.
