The Lesotho Council of Non-Government Organisations (LCN) affirmed that it will support teachers in their strike for salary increase, and improvement for working conditions in schools.

Speaking in Maseru yesterday, the LCN Programmes Director Mr Sekonyela Mapeja, said it is time that the employer takes into consideration teachers’ rights for their good health, and to respect students for their right for education.

He said they have started negotiations with teachers’ leaders, and that they are ready to find a lasting solution to teachers’ grievances.

The Lesotho Teachers Trade Union (LTTU)’s chairperson Mr Tiisetso Rasheleng, said they are planning to continue with their strike, until their employer implements her promise.

He said as teachers in Maseru, they are expecting their leaders to update them on the latest reports, and a way forward for their strike.

He also pointed out that they will go back in classes next week, and that they will continue with their strike until their grievances are solved.
