Lesotho has called for stronger international partnerships to attract investment, create jobs and accelerate economic transformation during a High-Level Roundtable held in Doha, Qatar.
Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Mr.Samuel Matekane highlighted challenges facing Least Developed Countries (LDCs), including limited productive capacity, inadequate infrastructure, restricted access to finance and declining development assistance. He emphasised the need for partnerships that translate development commitments into tangible economic opportunities.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Lesotho’s commitment to private sector-led growth, with priorities in renewable energy, agro-processing, manufacturing, tourism and digital transformation.
He highlighted the contribution of the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) in strengthening trade capacity and supporting local producers, including farmers provided with greenhouses to improve agricultural production.
The Prime minister called on the EIF, the Qatar Fund for Development and other development partners to support investment mobilisation and productive capacity-building. Looking ahead to the Midterm Review of the Doha Programme of Action in March 2027, he identified stronger productive capacities, sustainable financing and international cooperation as key priorities, stressing that partnerships must deliver meaningful opportunities for the people of Least Developed Countries.
