Thaba Tseka ___ People’s mindset needs to change to avoid trampling on other people’s rights, health rights not excluded.
This was stated by Mrs. ‘Mathato Nkuatsana from the Ministry of Health who indicated that it is every person’s right to know why they are taken to the health facility to access services even when they are not sick.
This she stated following the statement by community councillor Limpho from Ha Mokoto who indicated that if girls are taken for contraceptives their behaviour will loosen heavily.
He said at least they should not be told but rather be told falsified information that they are suffering from a certain sickness and therefore are to take the injection every three months.
He said when they know they have been protected against early unplanned pregnancy, they will be practising sex with everyone forgetting about STI and other transmissible diseases.
Mr. Mohase Molatelle from Mashai said they need to be part of the training as the child does not belong to mothers only. He said they are aware that to prevent unplanned pregnancies they should use protection such as condoms.
They were also informed that men can also use the male contraceptive to prevent unplanned pregnancies and that is called vasectomies.
Responding to her suggestion, Adolescent Health Programme Manager Mamohanyane Nkuatsana from the Ministry of Health said that it would be against the Law if young girls are vaccinated without their knowledge. She said it is an offence that could lead one to court.
Meanwhile, Mashai and Ha Mokoto residents have indicated they would be glad if UNFPA could distribute messages to them through various mediums.
This appeared while responding to the question on how they would like to have their messages delivered. They stated that they would appreciate it if they were given IEC materials, some pasted at the shops and clinics, provision of training for men, sms, public gatherings, and social media.
