Maseru – Liberty Life Lesotho and the Lesotho Correctional Services (LCS) on Tuesday celebrated a major milestone in their three-year partnership with the handover of a M134,000 cheque, reflecting the strong performance and sustainability.

Speaking at the event, Lesotho Correctional Service Commissioner, Commissioner Matingoe Phamotse, said financial hardship is like cancer because it affects every aspect of a person's life, including relationships at home. He noted that a lack of money can place individuals under immense mental stress and may even drive some people to engage in wrongdoing.

The Commissioner explained that people with financial means may attempt to bribe Correctional Officers to act unlawfully, and those struggling financially can easily be tempted. He said initiatives that encourage saving and provide financial returns help employees remain financially stable and less vulnerable to corruption.

He welcomed the profit share, saying it will strengthen the Lesotho Correctional Service by improving the financial wellbeing of its employees. He stressed that financially secure employees are more motivated and better positioned to deliver quality services to the Basotho nation.

Meanwhile, Mr. Makhakhe Maliehe, the Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Life Lesotho said it is again empowering employees to make informed financial decisions, increase their savings and strengthen their overall financial position.

Mr. Maliehe added that the ceremony reaffirms the commitment of both organisations to promoting employee welfare through sustainable partnerships that deliver long-term value.

In an interview with the Agency, Senior Assistance Commissioner Mokhethi Raphuthing said it is the first time members have received a profit share, describing it as a significant milestone that will help ease their financial burden.

Senior Assistant Commissioner said the pay-out will contribute to improving the welfare and wellbeing of employees and their families.
