In celebration of her 11th birthday, the Little Mayor 2023/24 Ms. Reatlehile Chopho has donated dustbins to Maseru City Council (MCC) and other sectors of the society in Maseru on Saturday.
In her speech, the Little Mayor, Ms. Chopho of Ha Tsolo, Maseru stated that becoming Maseru Mayor is the best thing that could have happened to her as she admires cleanliness.
This event commenced with a cleaning campaign in different parts of the city that include Setsoto Stadium, near Lesotho High School and LNDC to mention but a few places.
The event is part of Harvest Fm initiative together with MCC aimed at keeping Maseru clean while also instilling a sense of responsibility to growing children, thus avoiding littering. It is done through the Harvest Fm programme known as Kids Seminar where children under 12 compete for high profile positions.
Delivering his acceptance speech, MCC Mayor, Mr. Motlalepula Sepipi thanked the Little Mayor for having considered donating dustbins to MCC. He said the issue of maintaining cleanliness is vital for promotion of quality health as well as encouraging individuals to stand in solidarity against littering, saying the issue cannot be achieved by MCC alone.
He expressed gratitude to the organisers of the event, saying this will go a long way in inspiring growing children to take charge of the environment they live in and make sure that it is taken care of. He also spoke against use of alcohol and drugs happening in the city including at Moshoeshoe l Statue, where youth gather to misuse drugs.
Mayor Sepipi appealed to parents and all to join forces against use and abuse of drugs so as to rebuild a new generation of youth who are patriotic about their future and that of the country.
