The Minister of Health Honorable Nkaku Kabi says Lesotho needs to continue taking major steps against the spread of HIV/AIDS, as there are no enough plans set out to prevent this virus.

Honorable Kabi expressed this at the Lesotho Population-Based HIV Impact Assessment (LePHIA)’s HIV/AIDS final results announcement, at the Ministry of Health headquarters in Maseru on Wednesday the 16th January 2019.

LePHIA results revealed that even though Lesotho has successfully managed to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS, the number of young girls between the ages of fifteen and twenty-four, who are infected with HIV/AIDS has increased.

The results also revealed that the number of males between the ages of thirty and thirty-five, who are infected with HIV/AIDS has also increased.

The manager of HIV/AIDS Department in the Ministry of Health Mr Tapiwa Tarumbiswa, confirmed that HIV/AIDS testing must be strengthened among young girls in Lesotho.

According to LePHIA’s studies on the spread of HIV/AIDS in Lesotho, which started in November 2016 and ended in May 2017, Mohale’s Hoek has the highest rate of the spread of HIV/AIDS among the ten district of Lesotho with 29%, while Butha-Buthe is the lowest with 17%.
