Legislative drafters on refresher training

Legislative Drafters are attending a four - week long refresher training in Maseru starting today, Monday.

The training led by the office of Parliamentary Council is part of the European Union (EU) that pertains to 'Support for the Reform and Strengthening of Governance in Lesotho Programme'.

In her address, Acting Principal Secretary (PS), Ms. Thato Masiloane highlighted the criticality of legislative drafters in a democratic country, especially at this time when the country and its people are on reforms journey of reconciliation.

She articulated that through the training, legislative drafters would be assisted and supported with regard to strengthening of Bills they draft on day-to-day basis.

Sharing similar sentiments, Acting Parliamentary Council, Nthabiseng Sekokotoane explained that enhancing the rule of law and good governance that translates to government policy in a democratic country is vital hence the training.

Therefore, she expressed hope that through engaging EU Consultants, the training will help them realise policy objectives as they are tasked to legislate for all government Ministries.

"We are an arm of government, thus trainings such as these ones are significant in imparting more and more knowledge to us".

In the same note, EU Deputy Head of Delegation mentioned that since the start of the strengthening reforms project, the EU has supported the Ministry in various ways including capacitation of legislative drafters today, Monday.

The Political Officer, Erika Pasquini explained the importance of Parliamentary Council in their quest to enhance political will through drafting of Bills amongst others.

The Ministry of Justice and Law operates under the government of Lesotho with the aim to ensure institutionalisation of Justice for all Basotho amongst others.
