Maseru __ Its all eyes on Moshoeshoe I International Airport as its rehabilitation continues and takes a new shape.

The airport, whose rehabilitation progress was slammed not only by some members of the public but also the Parliamentary Portfolio Committees including the Public Accounts Committee, seems to be promising.

Speaking in an interview with the Agency, the Minister of Public Works and Transport Mr. Matjato Moteane disclosed that the structural steel for roofing of the existing building is underway and expected to be completed in mid May.

"The upgrading has taken a new turn and the remodeling of the airport building is gradually beginning although it will be at a peak in June" he added.

He also said some walls will be demolished and reconstructed at the right place and expected to be completed by August.

He therefore expressed hope that with the M108 Million allocated to the Ministry for the upgrading of the airport this financial year, it will cover the work until the end, saying the remaining balance, which is expected to be allocated in the next financial year, will be used for equipment installation.

Meanwhile earlier, the Parliamentary Portfolio Committees Chairpersons and Members toured the airport to analyse its progress but were unsatisfied, claiming it was stagnant and that there was nothing much seen on the ground.

The Agency has also learnt that the report of the Public Accounts Committee, the Portfolio Committee on Natural Resources and Committee of Chairpersons on rehabilitation of Moshoeshoe I airport was tabled before the National Assembly on March 20 this year.
