MASERU May 22 __ As the Lesotho Population and Housing Census 2026 progresses, the United Nations Population (UNFPA) Representative, Mr. John Kennedy Mosoti has encouraged all households to fully participate when enumerators visit their homes.

The opinion leader who publicly through his communication platforms highlighted the importance of census, urging all to cooperate with this transformative exercise has just been enumerated earlier today.

“The experience of being enumerated reminded me how important this national exercise is for Lesotho. Accurate census data helps inform decisions on healthcare, education, housing, employment and social services, ensuring that no one is left behind.”

According to the Representative, this process has gone well with the enumerator having been professional, courteous and clearly well trained, guiding them throughout the process with respect and patience.

In solidarity, he reiterated that a stronger evidence base for national planning and sustainable development can be attained successfully. He affirmed UNFPA support to the government of Lesotho in this essential exercise targeting to ensure that everyone is counted.

Meanwhile, the importance of census has also been articulated by the department of Statistics that has shown that equitable distribution of resources, informed decision-making in government, business and communities is influenced positively by the ongoing census.

Therefore, the success of the initiative which also touches base on issues of education, economy and others depends entirely on those being counted working amicably with census officers.
