President Andry Rajoelina dissolved his government on Monday in response to escalating, youth-led protests over severe water and electricity shortages.

In its reports, the United Nations said these protests have left at least 22 people dead and over 100 injured and the protesters are now in their third day. They were ignited by widespread anger over rolling blackouts and water shortages that can last for over 12 hours.

In a televised address, a conciliatory President Rajoelina stated, he comprehends the anger, the sorrow, and the challenges and also saying that he had heard the call, and felt the pain. He apologized for the failure of his government.
