The Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition, honourable Thabo Mofosi has promised to give feedback in relation to supply of seeds and fertilisers before the National Assembly adjourns for Christmas recession.
The Minister said this in response to the Point of Order raised by a Member of Parliament for Hloahloeng Constituency honourable Katleho Mabeleng in the parliament yesterday.
This follows an urgent motion which Mabeleng moved previously, that farmers have not accessed fertilisers though government promised availability. According to Minister Mofosi, there is a challenge pertaining to effective supply of fertilisers, adding that the government is working on the matter with the hope there shall be light at the end of the tunnel.
He re-affirmed the government's commitment towards agriculture, rendered his apology to the House and farmers for this disruption expressing hope that all will go well.
Therefore, Mabeleng asked for intervention as he said this delay would negatively affect summer cropping.
Improving agricultural production in an attempt to enhance the country's economic growth remains priority number one on the National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP ll) review extension.
