The Minister of Education and Training Professor Ntoi Rapapa said the Government of Lesotho is aware of the reigning situations in schools around the country, where students are not being taught by their teachers.
This he said in a press conference in Maseru yesterday, where he indicated that there are criminal activities taking place in some of the schools in Lesotho, and that the Government of Lesotho is also aware that some schools are being threatened because they are continuing to teach their students.
However Professor Rapapa emphasized that the government has come to a conclusion that it will accept the teachers’ request, that 135 School principals who were working on a performance contract will be given an advance at the end of their contract.
However he also indicated that on the 10th September 2018, the government has decided to launch the reformed career and salary structure that will be led by the Ministry of Public Service, therefore the expectation is that the representatives of the teachers unions should commit to this service.
Moreover he stated that the government will also pay teachers basing on the funds that the government is receiving as well as to introduce the No-Work-No-Pay policy.
Prof Rapapa appealed to all schools secretaries, school boards, school principals and all teachers to abide by the rules and regulations, in order to avoid a criminal offence of not teaching students.
