The African Parliamentary Press Network (APPN) - Lesotho appreciates progress made recently of tabling the much-awaited critical reforms Bills, the 10th and 11th Amendments to the Constitution.

APPN says these reforms are crucial for the future of our nation and signify a beacon of hope, to not only ensure that laws remain relevant and effective but also strengthen the governance institutions in addressing the evolving needs of society.

APPN urges both the opposition and government MPs to prioritize the

Nation’s interest above all else during the deliberation and passing of these bills. Adding that it is imperative that this process is conducted with transparency, accountability, and in a manner that reflects the will and aspirations of Basotho as reflected in the Multi-stakeholder National Dialogue Plenary II Report.

''As APPN-Lesotho, we issue a resolute appeal to all media practitioners across the nation to exercise discernment in their choice of individuals granted platforms for public expression,” says APPN.

It says the reforms Bills recently presented in parliament by the Minister of Law hold profound significance for the media landscape in Lesotho. Within these bills lie provisions designed to elevate the standards and professionalism of the noble profession.

APPN further indicates that these measures are not merely administrative formalities, they represent a concerted effort to cultivate a media environment characterized by integrity, accountability, and excellence. Embracing these reforms is essential for the advancement of both the media sector and the nation as a whole.

''It is incumbent upon us, as media practitioners, to recognize the pivotal role we play in shaping public discourse and perception. By providing platforms to individuals who obstruct the reform process, we risk undermining the collective aspirations of our society. Therefore, we must exercise utmost vigilance in discerning the voices we amplify and ensure that they align with the principles of progress and national development'', APPN says.

In conclusion, APPN-Lesotho stands firm in its commitment to promoting responsible

Journalism and upholding the values of democracy and social progress and calls upon all media practitioners to join in this endeavour by refraining from lending credence to voices that seek to hinder the vital process of reform.
