Mohale;s Hoek LEC Primary Principal Mrs. Maposo Mzamo

has on Monday expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Health under Dental department, for bringing dental services which she noted came in handy.

This ensued after about 1 500 students were screened in commemoration of Oral Health Awareness Week, whereby those who needed tooth filling and fissure sealants were issued consent forms to be filled by parents allowing them to have their teeth be filled, and those forms will be returned to school.  Mrs. Mzamo noted that the majority of students are from outside the district, while some are

not living with their parents who have secured domestic jobs in RSA, therefore teaching them about oral health is significant.  On the other hand, Dental Therapist Mrs. Happiness Manyonga highlighted that students were individually apprised on issues regarding dental health and were handed over pamphlets to read while others were given toothpaste and brushes.

Mrs. Manyonga, who had previously articulated that they are targeting children from 6 to 18 years, stated that 80 percent of tooth problems emanate from tooth decay, and 7 schools are expected to participate in this event.  Furthermore, one of the students, Nthati Mohapi expressed her satisfaction about the event,noting they have learned the importance of cleaning their teeth properly to avoid losing them.

Oral Health Awareness Week is an annual event commemorated in the last week of  August, and this year's theme is Protect Your Teeth- Avoid Tooth Loss.
