Maseru ___ Digital transformation has shown promising performance and is a significant stride in Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure.
The Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Dr. Retsélisitsoe Matlanyane said this when presenting the 2024/25 budget midterm review during a joint sitting in the National Assembly on Wednesday.
The Minister stipulated that even the Digital Transformation Strategy is a testament to promising performance. "Mobile phones usage and internet penetration provide hope for growth, "she stressed.
According to the Minister, digital transformation plays a major role towards development hence the Fiscal Budget had shown commitment in this regard.
In another story, the Minister reported progress and promising performance in reforms including in entrepreneurship as at least over 38 youth projects are on incubation stage at BEDCO.
Talking about corruption, she affirmed to the society that government is also out to root out corruption and as such the DCEO is working on over 200 cases of corruption.
Furthermore, Dr. Matlanyane explained in issues of debts, there is progress as well, adding at least 1.3 reduction of debt has been attained successfully.
Over and above that, she noted Lesotho is one of the few countries reported to have no debt problem, urging for concerted efforts for more improvements.
When concluding, she talked about revenue collection which she said government has recorded milestone as 13.1 billion Maloti has been collected which is almost 50 percent to their target.
The Agency also learnt from the presentation that when it comes to agriculture, at least over 2000 farmers have been trained in a bid to adapt to climate change effects amongst others.
In an interview after the presentation, a Member of Opposition in the House, Mrs. Maoshoa Mpeoa said she was expecting much to be said on agriculture, especially in encouraging more and more agricultural production and that the review is not convincing.
