PUBLIC WARNED AGAINST DANGEROUS INFLUENZA

Minister of Health Mr Selibe Mochoboroane has warned the general public about the incidences of dangerous influenza cases which have been reported in many health centres throughout the country.

In his statement he made in the National Assembly on Monday, Minister Mochoboroane described the influenza as A H3N2, A1 and a2 type.

Mr Mochoboroane this influenza’s symptoms are high temperatures, coughing, severe headache, painful muscles, sore throats and mucus.

He said the influenza is more dangerous to all the people, but stated that it is even more dangerous to pregnant women, those suffering from HIV, Tuberculosis (TB) as well as children aged under five years and people aged above 65 years.

The Minister said he has received reports of people who are dying in the villages due to suffering from the influenza even though he did not have the statistics.

He urged Basotho to go to the clinics if they notice any of the mentioned symptoms of the influenza, calling on those who have not been infected to get the influenza vaccines, especially during this period of the season when winter is fast approaching.

Mr. Mochoboroane appealed to Basotho to continue wearing face masks, regular hands washing, to cover their mouth when coughing and to avoid being in crowded places.

In conclusion, the Minister reminded the nation that COVID -19 is still there and therefore called on them to get the vaccine and to take care against contracting the influenza and pandemic.

Meanwhile, the National Assembly also passed the Centre for Accounting studies Bill, 2023 after proposing amendments which were adopted by the Members.
