Today, at the Qacha;s Nek Magistrate Court, Senior Magistrate Ts;eliso Bale sentenced Motsamai Khoanyane, a resident of Ha Mosuoe, to three years in prison without the option of a fine for assault.  The 35-year-old was convicted after attacking his neighbour, Lekhotso Kokome, with a traditional stick-on October 24, 2024.During the proceedings, Khoanyane pleaded guilty to the assault, which was prosecuted by Crown Counsel ’Mabohlokoa Nkuebe.

Evidence revealed that the attack occurred shortly after Kokome had greeted Khoanyane while passing by his homestead. When questioned about his actions, Khoanyane claimed he was suspicious that Kokome might steal from his vegetable garden.In court, Khoanyane expressed remorse, stating he was a first-time offender and promising not to repeat such behaviour.
