REGISTRAR MAQALIKA-LEROTHOLI SUSPENDED

Maseru, May 13 -- The National University of Lesotho (NUL) has suspended its Registrar, Mrs. Liteboho Maqalikha-Lerotholi, with immediate effect pending formal disciplinary proceedings.

In a notice issued to the university community on Monday, the institution said the suspension follows allegations relating to misconduct, insubordination and conduct considered prejudicial to the interests of the university.

The notice stated that the matter will proceed through the appropriate disciplinary procedures in line with university policies and legal frameworks.

The university also announced the appointment of Dr. Lipalesa Mathe as Acting Registrar with effect from May 11, 2026, pending the finalisation of the disciplinary process involving the substantive Registrar.

Members of the university community were urged to cooperate with and support Dr. Mathe to ensure continuity in the operations of the Registrar’s office.

Mrs. Maqalikha-Lerotholi’s suspension is linked to allegations that she failed to issue a suspension letter to Professor Kananelo Mosito, who has approached the courts challenging the legality of the recruitment process for the position of Vice-Chancellor at NUL.

In papers filed before the court, Professor Mosito argues that the recruitment process was initiated unlawfully, claiming that Section 16 of the NUL Order of 1992 was violated.

The agency tried to contact Mrs. Maqalika-Lerotholi but to no avail
