Learners at Matelile Primary School in Ha Seeiso, Mafeteng, have
received renovated classrooms that were previously in poor condition,
with leaking roofs, cracked walls and damaged floors, into safer and
more conducive learning spaces for learners and teachers.
In an interview with the Agency, Matelile Primary School Principal Mrs.
Mapele Nondanisa said they were happy to have received restored
classrooms after seeking assistance for a long time. She said the
school’s roof was blown off by strong winds last year, leaving the
classrooms in poor condition.
Mrs. Nondanisa said the condition of the classrooms disrupted learning,
as learners could not attend school during bad weather, delaying their
studies. She added that learners feared going to school on rainy days.
Meanwhile, a Grade 6 learner, Khopotso Letsie, said they appreciated
the efforts made to improve their learning environment, as they had
previously studied in fear. She said they experienced difficulties in their
studies saying they had to miss school during bad weather, causing
them to fall behind.
Miss Letsie said they were happy that learning had returned to normal
following the rebuild of their classrooms.
The project was implemented under the Vodacom Lesotho
Foundation’s Education Pillar as part of its commitment to promoting
quality education, inclusion and community development.
