Berea — Semana Bee Keeping Farm will be among the local businesses to attend the five days Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Industrialization Week to be staged at Durban, Kwazulu Natal Province scheduled for July 27 to 31.
Semana Bee Keeping Farm owner, Mrs. Mamoiphepi Letsie said they are overwhelmed to represent Berea and the entire country at such international platform through the support of Ministry of Trade and Industry Lesotho.
Mrs. Letsie said this marks a milestone of development, particularly for a business coming in the remote locations of Berea, Pulane Ha-Molahli, adding that such initiative will also underscore the importance of bees to many people who still undermine their importance.
She pointed out that being recognized with such high level invitation also encourage them to focus more on increasing their production by establishing a huge farm and firm that can process the honey.
Furthermore, Mrs. Letsie said upon returning from Durban, plans are in the pipeline to identify and collaborate with key stakeholders like herders on the protection of bees and to intensify education about their importance.
Additionally, she highlighted that bees are the major source of life in various aspects of development for the important source of honey and other products used for medical purposes.
The SADC Industrialization Week at Durban is hosted by the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition of the Republic of South Africa is set to serve a high level precursor event to the 46th SADC Summit of Heads of States and Government.
The event is also set to provide an important platform for Businesses, investors, policy makers and development partners from across the SADC region to promote industrialization, regional value chains, trade and investment opportunities.
Meanwhile, for the past years, Semana Bee Keeping Farm has showcased its products in high level platforms like Botswana and it was recently honored with the award during the National Bee Day which was staged at Qacha’s Nek.
