As predicted by the Lesotho Meteorological Services (LMS), Lesotho experienced snowfall in the country on Monday, as opposed to snowing in the middle of winter.A parliamentarian for Thaba Putsoa constituency told the Agency that it started snowing at Likalaneng and Thaba Putsoa and appealed to the government to be ready to remove the snow in places which normally experience heavy snowfall. He said graders as well as salt should be readily available to be used to remove heavy snowfall or salt to be sprinkled on the snow to easily melt it in order to prevent any hazardous
brought about by the snow. The Thaba Putsoa MP said normally people are caught in places where they do not have enough food, clothes or method of communication and that puts their lives in danger.Again, he said animals suffer when it snows as it covers grass and that the animals are unable
to graze. On the positive side, he said the snowfall helps to increase moisture on the ground for the crop farmers to plant while on the other the snowfall could attract tourism to people who like skating. The LMS had warned that it was anticipating snowfall starting on Sunday to the early hours of Tuesday this week over some high lying areas.
Furthermore, the LMS appealed to the nation to take precautions when travelling to and from the highlands areas as roads connecting these places may become slippery and inaccessible. It also promised to continue to monitor the system and to provide updates and therefore appealed to the nation n to stay tuned to local radio stations and Lesotho Television for daily.
