SOUTH AFRICAN BUS DRIVERS’S STRIKE ENTERS THE SIXTH DAY
South African bus drivers’s strike enters the sixth day
23 April 2018 | 10:38

Many commuters in South Africa must once again look for alternative transport, as the nationwide bus strike looks set to intensify, as it enters its sixth day today.

The continued strike action comes as a result of failed wage negotiations, between employees unions and employers, over the course of a two-day meeting with the Commission of Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).

Workers initially demanded a 12% wage increase, but employers offered them 7% increase.

The South African Transport Workers and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) spokesperson Zanele Sabela, said the bus strike is continuing, and they are trying to intensifying the situation.

Sabela said the strike started on Wednesday last week and has left thousands of commuters stranded, and a significant strain has been placed on other forms of public transport.
