THE AFRICAN NATIONAL CONGRESS HAS LOST PARLIAMENTARY MAJORITY
The African National Congress has lost parliamentary majority

After all the ballots have been counted in South Africa, the ruling African National Congress (ANC) has received only 40.18 percent votes in Wednesday’s election, well short of a majority.

For the first time since the end of apartheid in 1994, the once-dominant party will need to make a deal with other parties to form a coalition government. The Democratic Alliance, the main opposition party, received the second-highest number of votes 21.81 percent), followed by the MK party 14.58 percent and EFF 9.52 percent.

The ANC now has 14 days in which to form a coalition government, so negotiations with the other parties will be getting underway.

The prime Minister Cyril Ramaphosa and Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa has declared the national and provincial elections free and fair despite glitches, saying irregularities were immaterial.

On the other hand Zuma’s MK said the day before the results announcement that it doesn’t accept the results and wants a recount. Zuma intimated violence could ensue if it didn’t get its way.
