The Ministry of Tourism Principal Secretary (PS), Mr. Pokello Mahlomola says, the Ministry is committed towards towards job creation.
The PS said this in an interview with the Agency when re-affirming the Ministry’s commitment in exploring and implementing the new strategic approach towards job creation.
According to Mr. Mahlomola, unemployment remains one of the biggest challenges facing the country today, particularly youth and such was attested in the 2025/26 fiscal budget.
Therefore, he appealed to the private sector to also join forces in making sure that positive changes, new ideas and strategies are being explored in order to change the current status quo of the youth that has affected them negatively.
Meanwhile, the PS further said the Ministry is further going to establish a new Tourism Economic Zone (TEZ) to serve as a new innovative approach at Sehlabathebe targeting to create 6000 jobs, with the target being the youth.
In another issue, the Agency established that under the National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP II) review extension, tourism remains one of the priority areas seeking to help the government create jobs so as to grow the economy.
In this way, the economy is expected to stabilize and grow by 2.2 percent in 2026-2027 as well as by 2.1 percent in 2028 respectively.
