A 53 years old man ‘Mele Hoohlo of Ha-Hoohlo Maseru, and a 45 years old woman of Katlehong Maseru, who are employees of the Lesotho Electricity Company(LEC), appeared before the Maseru Magistrate Court on the 26th July 2018 for money laundering.
Reports indicate that during the time when he was a manager of Electricity Department at LEC, Hoohlo illegally increased his monthly salary from M70 000 to M90 000, between May 2014 and December 2016.
Reports further indicate that this incident was revealed, when the new management of the department was sworn in.
According to the reports ‘Masechaba illegally bought one of the cars of the company, and rented it back to the company, where she was paid a monthly amount ranging between M31 000 and M33 000.
During the time ‘Masechaba was a manager in the Finance Department, and they are reported to have stolen a total amount of M37 000 from LEC.
They were each given a bail of M500 which they managed to pay, and Hoohlo will appear in court on the 7th August, while ‘Masechaba will appear on the 5th August 2018.
