Vodacom Lesotho, a subsidiary of Vodafone continues to strengthen its data protection and privacy measures in line with local and global regulations. As stated by Mrs. Reitumetse Ramaema, Manager of Privacy Compliance, emphasized that the company operates under Vodafone and it is governed by the Data Protection Act (DPA) in Lesotho. She indicated that Vodacom has more than 1.8 million subscribers worldwide. She also explained that Vodacom does not have capacity to hack a customer’s phone because it is regulated by the laws.
Mrs. Ramaema stated that Vodacom does not record customer’s conversations or smses instead there is Call Data Record (CDR) that stores a person’s information for 3 years. She revealed that Vodacom does not attend to queries related to social media as those applications do not belong to them but to META. She stated that where there is data breach, in compliance with Data Protection Act of Lesotho, Vodacom works with regulatory authorities to ensure the breach is addressed responsibly. When concluding, she stressed that Vodacom’s commitment to privacy management ensures that customers can trust the company with their personal data, fostering a safe digital environment in the country.
