WATER AND SOWERAGE COMPANY WASCO RESPONDS ON BURSTING WATER PIPES
11 June 2025 | 08:24

Maseru __ Water and Sewage Company (WASCO) is continuing to repair water pipes in some villages which burst due to high pressure and cold weather conditions.

This was said by WASCO Public Relations Manager Mrs Lineo Moqasa in an interview with the Agency, following reports that some villagers complain of pipes which burst and are left unattended for some days yet they reported to the company.

Mrs Moqasa clarified that most affected villages include Ha Foso, Marabeng, Ts'enola, Ha Ts'osane and some parts of Naleli.

"WASCO installed new pipes as part of the Greater Maseru Water Supply Project which carry a lot of water thus the weight and pressure of this water overwhelm the existing pipes, which end up bursting" she said, adding that the company is addressing this problem of high pressure by testing methods to reduce the flow of water.

She clarified that the company delays reaching some areas on expected time to repair the pipes due to increase in reports as well as limited human and other resources, saying the company advised itself to increase staff.

"The company, through its technical operations department is also developing a plan to purchase the necessary equipment in advance so that when the problem arises, such equipment is nearby" she added.

Meanwhile, WASCO launched operation "hlasela metsi a qhalaneng" in February this year with the objective to repair critical leakage hotspots within the Maseru water distribution networks.
