10 November 2018 | 06:30

The US Embassy to Lesotho in collaboration with other non-government organizations like the Lesotho Council of Non-Government Organizations(LCN) and the Lesotho Planned Parenthood Association(LPPA), launched the Sexual Reproductive Health Rights forum for young people in Maseru yesterday.

At the event a member of the Disabled and HIV/AIDS Organization Lesotho(DOL) Mr Phant’si Makobane, said young people have rights and for those rights to be respected, they must exist in a safe environment.

He said if young people have rights and those rights are not respected, this implies that those rights are not for them.

Mr Phant’si expressed that when they talk about the Sexual Reproductive Health Rights for young people, health services for HIV/AIDS and other diseases must be available in all hospitals in Lesotho.

He pointed out that if health services are available in all hospitals, people will access other health services like family planning, VMMC and PrEP even if they went to hospitals for other different illnesses.

Speaking from the perspective of law at the event Mr Lerato Seema, said Lesotho as a country supports Sexual Reproductive Health Rights.

He said the Government of Lesotho signed several international agreements like African Chatter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, which shows that Lesotho associates itself with the laws recognized internationally.
