09 January 2019 | 18:51

The Deputy Minister of Health Honorable ‘Manthabiseng Phohleli , says the Ministry of Health will welcome cancer doctors from India on Thursday and on Friday this week.

Honorable Phohleli said this in Maseru yesterday, where she further explained that the Government of Lesotho through the Ministry of Health has an agreement with Apollo hospitals in India since April 2016, to provide health services to Basotho.

She said the government has an agreement with other hospitals in Bloemfontein South Africa, to provide treatment for non-communicable diseases to Basotho, which include cancer and kidney diseases.

Honorable Phohleli however said they were faced with a challenge as the Ministry of Health, of Basotho patients being given late bookings for cancer treatment in South Africa.

She said because of this situation, they decided to sign an agreement with Apollo hospitals in India to save the lives of Basotho, while they were preparing to build a cancer and kidney diseases centre in Lesotho.

In her statement she said the doctors will provide those services from the 10th to the 11th January 2018 at Queen II Hospital, and called on all cancer patients to come and be tested for cancer, so that they will be registered in the list of cancer patients who will be transferred to India.

She also encouraged cancer patients who are back from India to come and be tested as part of a check-up for their health.
