The Ministry of Small Businesses, Cooperatives and Marketing, handed over two hundred and sixty-one shacks to small entrepreneurs in Maseru yesterday.

At the event the director of the ministry said the Ministry of Small Businesses, Cooperatives and Marketing and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftainship, became aware that small entrepreneurs struggle in rendering services in Maseru and in other places, and the Ministry of Small Businesses, Cooperatives and Marketing negotiated with the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftainship, that small entrepreneurs be given portions of land where they will be provided with shacks.

He indicated that the shacks will also be provided in other districts, which include Leribe, Mafeteng and Mohale’s Hoek very soon.

Speaking at the event the Minister of Small Businesses Honorable Chalane Phori, said the shacks are manufactured by Basotho to strengthen the economy of the country.

He said the name “Street venders” should be changed to “small entrepreneurs”, as the economy of Lesotho is in the hands of small entrepreneurs.

On behalf of small entrepreneurs, the chairperson of small entrepreneurs committee Mr Molefi Paneng, thanked Honorable Phori and the Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship Honorable Habofanoe Lehana for the shacks.
