The US military says it has carried out an air raid in Somalia, that killed 52 al-Shabab fighters.

According to the reports, the raid was launched hours after the al-Shabab group attacked Somali army base.

Al-Shabab still controls large parts of rural, southern, and central Somalia, and continues to carry out high-profile attacks in the capital Mogadishu and elsewhere.

Reports indicate that in the city of Kismayo south of Somalia, the US military attacked al-Shabab rebels using war planes, and the attack left bodies of people and shells of vehicles burnt and strewn around.

Reports also indicate that the Pentagon increased the rate of strikes in Somalia in recent years, partly because President Donald Trump has loosened restrictions, on when the US military can take action against terrorist’s targets.
