The Office of the Auditor General held a one day workshop for non-government organizations in Maseru yesterday, aimed at closing a communication gap between the office and the organizations.

At the workshop the Auditor General Mrs Lucy Liphafa, said her office works tirelessly to ensure that public funds are used the way they were intended.

Speaking on behalf of the non-government organizations, the education studies investigator of the Development for Peace Education(DPE) Mrs ‘Mabataung Sek’ha, said DPE has village parliaments where it investigates the use of public funds, to find out if they were used for the benefit of Basotho.

Mrs Sek’ha further said when the Office of the Auditor General has released its financial reports, and the reports are taken to the parliament, they want people to know how those reports affect them.

She said as the non-government organizations they are coordinators, who investigate how government ministries use the funds allocated to them.

She also said their duty is similar to that of the office of the Auditor General, as they look after the usage of public funds by the government ministries.
