The Minister of Finance Dr Moeketsi Majoro signed a $5.78 million Compact Development Grant Agreement, in the presence of the SU Ambassador to Lesotho Honorable Rebecca Gonzalez in Maseru yesterday.

At the event Honorable Gonzalez said this signing agreement is one of the several milestones, on the way to the finish line of finally signing a second Millennium Challenge Corporation compact in future.

However she said she is deeply concerned about the alarming reports of corruption and police brutality in Lesotho, the behavior that is unacceptable and non-negotiable.

She also explained that she has had the opportunity to travel to all the ten districts of Lesotho, to see the firsthand accomplishments achieved together with the Basotho people, under the first MCC compact and the significant challenges that remain.

She further said Lesotho can be proud of its progress towards reaching to epidemic control in the fight against HIV/AIDS, including investments made in MCC’s first compact that that strengthened the country’s health care system and its ability to deliver quality services.

Speaking at the event Honorable Majoro indicated that the man challenge that is facing Lesotho is high unemployment rate, which mostly affects young people.
