LCD CALLS FOR THE GOVERNMENT OF NATIONAL UNITY OVER ELECTIONS.
LCD calls for the government of national unity over elections.
13 June 2019 | 13:31

Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) announced that it will not support a motion of no confidence against the government and the prime minister in the Parliament of Lesotho, if only the government agrees to form a government of national unity to avoid elections.

Speaking in Maseru yesterday, the LCD leader Honorable Mothejoa Metsing, said leaders of opposition parties represented in parliament met last week, to discuss among others the intention of some of their members to pass a motion of no confidence against the government and the prime minister in parliament.

He said most of the leaders agreed to support the motion, but he expressed the view of his party that a motion of no confidence is another way of calling for elections.

He also stated that according to the constitution of Lesotho, when a motion of no confidence against the government and the prime minister succeeds in parliament, the prime minister in power will have to resign within three days or advice the king to call for elections.

He advised the Government of Lesotho to form government of national unity, in which all parties in parliament will be represented to avoid elections.
