Department of Road Funds donated seventy spot fine devices to the Lesotho Mounted Police Service in Maseru on Tuesday 03/09/2019.

The expert in the usage of the devices Inspector Karabo Morapeli, said in the past drivers who committed crime on the roads, were registered in books but now they will be registered in the electronic systems through these devices.

He said the use of the devices is divided in three steps, where the first one registers the identity details of the driver who committed crime, the second registers the details of the car involved in the crime scanning its disc, while the third one identifies the type of crime the driver has committed.

He said at this stage the device will display different traffic laws, and help the traffic police on duty to identify the type of crime the driver has committed.

Traffic Commissioner from Department of Traffic and Transport Mrs. ‘Mathabo T’sosane, explained that the devices will help them identify drivers who do not obey traffic laws, and take the correct necessary measures against them.

The Commissioner of Police (ACP) Holomo Molibeli said they started planning to have spot fine devices in 2013, after realizing that drivers preferred to be given spot fine receipts which they failed to pay.

He said this plan failed due to the shortage of funds, but they requested assistance from the Department of Road Funds.
