A twenty-four years old woman of Ha-Molalanyane Motsemocha in the Qacha’s Nek district, appeared in the Qacha’s Nek Magistrate Court on the 10th October 2019, charged with killing her eight months old son.

She is awaiting trial in police custody and will re-appear in court on the 24th October 2019.

The Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli said the woman beat her son with a whip on the 2nd October 2019, and he died on the 5th October 2019.

Mopeli said the son was found with stripes all over his body, and also with fire wounds on his butt.

Reports say a child of this woman’s sister who was living with her, is now living with another family which volunteered to take care of him, after he was also badly beaten by this woman.

Superintendent Mopeli urged people to stop child abuse, and to report it to the police even when it is done by parents.
