Five men aged between twenty-three and twenty-five of Phamong in the Quthing district, were arrested by the police on the 31st October 2019, for allegedly possessing illegal firearms.

They were found with three 9mm guns and seven bullets, and reports say police was given a tip-off that two men in the village of Maputsoe, in the Mt.Moorosi region were seen carrying guns.

The Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) deputy spokesperson Sergeant ‘Mareabetsoe Mofoka, said when police arrived in the village, they found two suspects already arrested by residents; one carrying a 9mm gun while the other was carrying a bald cutter.

Mofoka explained that while police was still in the village, the two men were communicating with other men in their group, and it was later found that they had planned to go to another place together.

She said the other men finally came to join the two men arrested by residents, and they were found with two 9mm guns.

Sergeant Mokoka further indicated that the five men, are also suspects in the robbery incident that happened at one PEP Store in the Quthing district.
