Ministry of Water in close collaboration with sister government ministries through the support of the European Union (EU), and Germen Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), has initiated Integrated Catchment Management (ICM) programme.

In a statement the ministry said communities in the rural watersheds of Lesotho are facing a myriad of challenges including poverty and food security, which contribute to severe land degradation and threatens traditional culture and livelihoods.

According to the statement extreme climate events like droughts and floods, create additional risks for vulnerable people.

The ministry articulated that government departments, civil society, communities, private sector and funding partners are working together, to come up with interventions to combat these problems, but little success results are seen due to the silo approach that exists among different partners.

The statement further explains that the ICM, seeks to bring together various stakeholders and interests, in a catchment on management and sustainable use of water, land and related resources, to achieve holistic catchment improvement.
