Two men aged 22 from Nazareth Ha-Phaloane, and 24 from Zimbabwe who is residing at Ha-Phaloane in Nazareth, were arrested by police on the 24th January 2020 for fraud.

The Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli said the suspects went to one M-Pesa shop in Nazareth to withdraw M20.00, and after receiving a confirmation message, they fraudulently changed the figures of the amount of money they withdrew to M2500, and complained to the clerk that she gave them the amount of money different from the one they withdrawn.

According to the reports, the clerk told the suspects she had not received a message notifying her of the amount they claimed, but the suspects told her the messaging network had problems and is delaying to send notifications.

Superintendent Mopeli said the clerk got suspicious, and she called Vodacom call centre to seek clarity about the issue, and she was told the amount of money claimed was never withdrawn.

She called the police and the suspects were arrested.

Reports say the suspects deceived a number of people with this trick in different places including Semonkong, Maputsoe and Roma.
