The Socialist Revolutionaries (SR) expressed their concern for the arrest and immediate release of the First Lady ‘Maesaiah Thabane, over the alleged murder of her husband’s former wife Lipolelo Thabane.

Speaking in Maseru on Monday the 10th January 2020, the Party leader Mr Teboho Mojapela said the arrest of the First Lady in connection with the murder of her husband’s former wife, is a dirty and disgraceful issue that humiliated them in other nations and to God.

He said the First Lady was informed about her charges and instructed to await trial in custody, but was later granted bail on the same day under suspicious conditions by the Acting Chief Justice ‘Maseforo Mahase.

The SR leader indicated that the First Lady was released from jail after working hours in the Lesotho Correctional Services (LCS), and paid for the bail the following day when she was already released.

Mr. Mojapela said this shows that judicial courts in Lesotho are at risk, under the leadership of the Acting Chief Justice ‘Maseforo Mahase who serves her interests.

He announced that as SR they recommend that issues surrounding the release of the First Lady from custody be thoroughly investigated, as she was not rightly granted bail.

In a statement, he also said they call upon the Prime Minister to resign with immediate effect, as issues surrounding him have tarnished the image of Lesotho in other countries.

In his remarks he indicated that the release of the First Lady from custody, forced the main witness in the murder case of Lipolelo Thabane, Thato Sibolla to flee the country in fear of her life.
