Vodacom Lesotho pledged its solidarity and support to the government and people of Lesotho, of using their technological infrastructure to help fight COVID-19.

Speaking in Maseru on Friday, Vodacom Lesotho Managing Director Mr. Phillip Amoateng said during this time, they will support the government in areas of education, health and in digital financial services.

He said they believe that in times like these, their customers and kids need them the most, and so they will zero-rate all educational platforms from primary to tertiary schools, to help students continue with their studies for the next three months.

Mr. Amoateng said due to the challenges including infrastructural requirements Lesotho is facing, they are pledging to the government one thousand phones, which will be given to health workers to help them in the fight against COVID-19.

He said they know that Ministry of Health has approximately six thousand nurses across the country, and they pledge to give these nurses up to 120 minutes calling bundles, and 5G data every month to help them fight the virus.

In his remarks Mr. Amoateng pointed out that they are already working on infrastructure, which if they get to the point where they want to carry out mass screening, it will allow them through their mobile network.

On behalf of the government and ministerial sub-committee, Minister of Communications, Science and Technology Chief Thesele ‘Maseribane, expressed his gratitude to Vodacom Lesotho.

He said Basotho need more education on COVID-19, to understand that Lesotho is not even on level one and does not even have a case relating to the virus.
