The Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) joined the world to condemn the killing of an unarmed African-American man George Floyd, in Minneapolis in the United States of America on the 25th May 2020.

In his remarks in Maseru on Tuesday 9th June 2020, the party Leader Honorable Mothejoa Metsing said the world is embarking on a campaign to denounce racial discrimination, influenced by hatred of some elements of white people to black people, and that LCD is not exception to the campaign.

He said their concern is heightened by the fact that similar actions happen on a daily basis in other jurisdictions, and those in authority maintain a shattering silence.

In his statement he pointed out that one would expect the Government of Lesotho to show solidarity with loud cries against racial discrimination, but in particular the inherent police brutality against unarmed civilians.

He said reports indicate that suspects in the killing of George Floyd are in police custody, even though there is a possibility that they might be released, and in Lesotho suspects of police brutality have not been held accountable for their actions.
