A Member of Parliament for Makhaleng constituency Mr. Mootsi Lehata has questioned the manner in which they have been invited by the Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition as legislators in the National Assembly on Tuesday. This was after Deputy Speaker of National Assembly Mrs. Tšepang Tšíta-Mosena had read the letter of invitation from the Minister to the Members of Parliament to attend the launch of the Winter Cropping to be staged at Ha Manama, Kolonyana in the Leribe district on Wednesday May 10th.

However, Mr. Lehata questioned the invitation, saying instead the Minister should have made the statement to the members so that they could ask him questions about the whole launch. Mr. Lehata said it was abnormal for them as members to be invited to this event via the office of the Speaker instead of delivering the statement. He said they have questions regarding the launch like the minister was supposed to say why he resolved to purchase fertiliser which he believed was of poor quality and not suitable for Lesotho but since the Minister responsible chose to invite them via a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly they are unable to ask such questions.

Similarly, a Leader of Basotho Patriotic Party (BPP) Mr. Tefo Mapesela also challenged the invitation through a point of order, arguing that as the legislators they were not interested in the launch for winter cropping but rather they were eager to know if the Government sponsors this winter cropping launch and for how much. He also said they would like to know if the project will cover the entire country or if it is only for Kolonyama and what the government’s interest in the place is in particular.
