'LEQHASHASHA' SHOT DEAD

A well-known Ts’enolo FM current affairs Presenter Ralikonelo Joki otherwise Leqhashasha was shot dead on Sunday night while leaving the station. Leqhashasha as commonly called was presenter for a current affairs
programme called Lehlokoana la Tsela aired between 19hrs30 and 21hrs30.

Ts’enolo FM Station Manager Mr. Mshengu Tshabalala said that the deceased was shot between 21:30 and 21:40 after his programme had ended. He said that he was very sad and shocked, saying that he is out of words, especially since they have lost a very powerful presenter and true journalist who was able to reveal most critical issues.

On the other hand, Station Owner Mr. Mohau Kobile said that this is a very sad moment for them especially because he was brave and reported without bias where people were being oppressed. He said that he was a true journalist who reported without fear of being killed or not as long as he did what was right thus exposing those not doing good.
He indicated that journalists are usually threatened but he did not submit to the threats. He said that there are no people of his (Leqhashasha) calibre saying that this is a huge loss to them as the station and the country as well. He appealed to the government to take drastic measures in fighting these killings saying if government delays in taking action this will bring Lesotho into instability.

Moreover, one of the journalists Mrs. ‘Marafaele Mohloboli said that incidents of this nature are meant to instil fear in journalists and presenters. She said that it is wrong for political parties or politicians to force journalists to give out their sources whenever they have stories against them (politicians). She said that ethically journalists have to protect their sources therefore emphasising that media house owners should protect their employees. Joki was born on February 20, 1979 at Ha-Mafophela Mohlaka-Tuka Nazareth. He is survived by his wife, three children while the fourth one is expected any time from now. He has worked in different radio stations like MoAfrika FM, Space Age MXXL before joining Ts’enolo FM in 2018.
