SR LEADER DESCRIBES LESOTHO AS BLOOD BATH
16 May 2023 | 10:33

Socialist Revolutionaries (SR) Leader Advocate Teboho Mojapela hasdescribed Lesotho as a blood bath due to a number of killings in the country. Adv. Mojapela said this in the National Assembly on Monday standing with a point of Order in the wake of the assassination of a well-known Radio Presenter Mr Ralikonelo ‘Leqhashasha’ Joki who is reported to have been gunned down at the gate of Tsénolo FM ON Sunday night.

Adv. Mojapela said he was concerned about the number of killings in which Basotho are killed like flies. ‘There is no more respect for human life in this country as people are killed almost every day’ he decried. He said other countries no longer have any respect for Lesotho due to the high number of killings, saying they negatively affect the country’s economic growth and development. Adv. Mojapela who is also a parliamentarian for Motete Constituency urged the Government to act swiftly to protect against the endless killings.

In response to the point of order, Speaker of the National Assembly Mr Tlohang Sekhamane welcomed the point of order, saying no one can tolerate the rampant killings, saying Cabinet Ministers who were present when the matter was raised would act accordingly. On the same manner, Basotho Action Party (BAP) Leader Professor Nqosa Mahao also stood with a point of order saying he has filed a Private Member’s bill motion on easy granting of bails to suspect, but it was still pending. He therefore demanded to know when it will be brought before the House in order to allow Members to deliberate on it while still waiting for an Act of Parliament which he said takes time to be enacted.

The Speaker responded by saying that the Private Member’s bill motion in question was almost similar to another one that was filed earlier and therefore wanted to discuss it for further clarity with Prof. Mahao before it could be rought into the House for debate.
